City of Darlington

In 2016, the City of Darlington received a grant from RIA to address a long-standing drainage issue on the southwest side of the city. Due to poor stormwater infrastructure and open ditches running through the area, residents often complained of odors and mosquitos from standing water. Concerns were also expressed about the health and the safety of nearby residents. As a result of the RIA grant, the city made significant drainage improvements that included replacing open ditches with concrete drainage pipes and increasing the capacity of existing pipes. The drainage infrastructure upgrades reduced flooding and improved the quality of life for 57 residences and 3 businesses in southwest Darlington.
